Dr. Derek Chu MD PhD FRCPC is a clinician scientist at McMaster University focused on clinical research and knowledge synthesis in food allergy. He is in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Department of Medicine; Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence & Impact (formerly Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics); and The Research Institute of St. Joe's Hamilton. Dr. Chu completed his combined MD-PhD at McMaster on immunologic mechanisms of peanut allergy and anaphylaxis before completing board-certified specialization in Internal Medicine, and pediatric and adult Allergy and Clinical Immunology. At McMaster, Dr. Chu directs the challenge clinic for allergy diagnosis, research and treatment. He also teaches undergraduate and graduate students, and residents and fellows. A member of the GRADE working group, Dr. Chu also works towards developing evidence-based medicine approaches and guidelines.
