Jonathan A. Bernstein, MD

Dr. Jonathan A. Bernstein is Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Immunology/Allergy Section at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and partner of the Bernstein Allergy Group and Clinical Research Center.  He received his MD from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine in 1985.  He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital from 1985-1988 and his Allergy/Clinical Immunology training at Northwestern University from 1988-1990. 

 

His current research involves the health effects of environmental interventions in the homes of asthmatic children funded by NIAID,  novel therapies for the treatment of angioedema/chronic urticaria, biomarkers and mechanisms of HAE, immunosurveillance for Trimellitic anhydride sensitization in the workplace, food and drug hypersensitivity, allergenicity of cyanobacteria, phenotyping/endotyping chronic rhinitis subtypes specifically non-allergic rhinitis and seminal plasma hypersensitivity.  Dr. Bernstein is a DIA certified investigator with extensive experience conducting multicenter and physician initiated clinical therapeutic trials related to asthma, COPD, rhinitis, urticaria, hereditary and ACE-induced angioedema.  Dr. Bernstein is an author in over 250 peer reviewed articles in addition to numerous book chapters on a variety of relevant topics in Allergy and Clinical Immunology.  He is the co-editor of the textbook published in 2014, Clinical Asthma: Theory and Practice, also published in Spanish, Rhinitis published by Elsevier and Editor of the book Rhinitis published by Springer.  He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Asthma and is on the editorial board of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Allergy Asthma Proceedings and Journal of Angioedema and a regular reviewer for these journals as well as JACI (editorial board member 2012-2017) and JACI: In Practice. He is on the medical advisory board of the HAEA organization, a board member of the AAAAI Foundation and Interasma and Chairman of AFI.

 

 

Dr. Bernstein is actively involved with the University of Cincinnati Allergy Fellowship Training Program in the education of fellows and also teaches residents and medical students.   Dr. Bernstein has been voted “Best Doctor” in Cincinnati from 1999 to 2017 and has been ranked by US New and World Report as being in the top 1% of doctors in his specialty.  He is a member of the University of Cincinnati Alpha Omega Alpha chapter.
